Before you start
- Your user needs access to Payments.
- If the coupon is only for certain products, create them first in Payments › Products.
- Coupons work on order forms, stores, websites, payment links, calendars, services and events. They do not work on invoices or estimates.
Where to find it
Payments › Coupons › Create Coupon
Step by step
- In the left menu, open Payments and click Coupons.
- Click Create Coupon.
- Enter a Coupon Name (internal only, for example "Summer Sale").
- Enter the Coupon Code customers will use (letters and numbers only, no spaces), or click Generate to create one.
- Choose the discount type:
- Percentage: for example, 25% off the total.
- Fixed amount: for example, 25 off, whatever the total.
- (Optional) Set a start date and time and an end date and time. With no end date, the coupon stays active indefinitely.
- (Optional) Set restrictions:
- Limit total redemptions (for example, 100 uses);
- Limit to selected products (you can pick specific prices or variants);
- Limit to one use per customer.
- If the coupon will be used on recurring products, choose how long the discount lasts: Forever or Multiple months (for example, 20% for the first 3 months).
- Click Create. The coupon is active (or scheduled, if you chose a future start date).
Tips
- The coupon currency is always your account's currency and can't be changed.
- A 100% coupon lets you give a product away for free.
- Codes aren't case-sensitive: "SUMMER" and "summer" work the same.
- You can edit, delete or view usage history at any time. Changes only apply to future uses.
Common problems
- The coupon field doesn't show at checkout → It only appears when a valid coupon exists for those products. Check the dates, the selected products and whether coupons are turned on in the form or link builder.
- The customer says the code doesn't work → Check whether the coupon has expired, hit its usage limit, or was already used by that customer (with the one-use-per-customer limit).
- The multi-month discount charged the wrong amount on PayPal → PayPal doesn't support month-limited discounts on subscriptions or coupons that bring the total to zero. Use Stripe or the Forever option.
- I want to discount an invoice → Coupons don't work on invoices. Use Add discount on the invoice itself.
Frequently asked questions
