What custom objects are and when to use them
Custom objects are new record types in your CRM for things that aren't contacts, companies or opportunities (properties, pets, policies, vehicles, projects). Create them in Settings › Objects; they have their own fields, link to contacts, and work in workflows and forms.

Before you start
- Only an account administrator can create and edit custom objects; other users can view and use the records.
- Think about what you want to track first: if it's a person, it stays a contact; if it's a thing (a property, a pet, a policy, a vehicle), it's a candidate for an object.

Step by step
Understand what a custom object is
- Elooo CRM comes with three record types built in: contacts (people), companies, and opportunities (deals in a pipeline).
- A custom object is a fourth record type that your business defines: for example Properties, Pets, Policies, Vehicles or Projects.
- Each object has its own records (each property is a record), its own fields (price, bedrooms, status) and its own links to contacts, companies, opportunities or other objects.
- Once created, the object appears in the left menu and can be used in workflows, forms, smart lists, filters and dashboards.
Decide whether you need an object
- Use a custom object when:
- What you want to track isn't a person or a company (a property, a pet, a contract).
- It occurs many times and always needs the same fields (every vehicle has a plate, make and year).
- One contact can have several (an owner with three pets; a buyer interested in five properties).
- Don't create an object when:
- A contact already does the job. Bulk email, campaigns and conversations only work with contacts.
- You'd be duplicating something that already exists (a "Clients" object next to contacts just causes confusion). To segment contacts, use smart lists.
- You want to log notes or tasks: use the notes and tasks on the contact record.
Examples that work well
- Real estate: a Properties object with price, location and status, linked to buyers, sellers and agents.
- Veterinary clinic: a Pets object with breed, vaccinations and history, linked to the owner (contact).
- Insurance: a Policies object with number, term and type, linked to the policyholder.
- Auto shop: a Vehicles object with plate and mileage, linked to the customer.
Tips
- Start with a single object and a few fields; adding is easier than cleaning up.
- You can have up to 10 custom objects in your account.
- For a quick start, there are ready-made templates by industry (real estate, insurance, automotive, pets…) under Settings › Objects › Add Custom Object › Use a template.
Common problems
- I don't see Objects in Settings → Only account administrators have access. Ask an administrator to set it up or to grant you permissions.
- I created an "Attendees" object for an event and can't email everyone → Bulk sending works with contacts. Register attendees as contacts with a tag; use the object only if you need data about the event itself.
- The same data lives on both the contact and the object → Pick one place. Data about the person belongs on the contact; data about the thing belongs on the object, linked to the contact.
Frequently asked questions
Does a custom object replace companies?
No. Companies remain the record type for organizations. Use objects for things that are neither people nor organizations.
Can I link an object to another object?
Yes. A property can be linked to a contact, a company, an opportunity and another object (for example, a building).
