How to send an email with CC and BCC from a conversation

In the conversation, pick the email channel, click the CC/BCC field next to To, choose a contact from the list or type another address, and send. CC recipients can see the other recipients; BCC recipients stay hidden.

Updated on

Before you start

  • You need access to Conversations and an email service connected to the account (the Elooo CRM email service or your Gmail/Outlook mailbox).
  • The CC/BCC fields live in the new email composer. If you don't see them, you may need to turn it on under Settings › Labs.
  • The primary contact (the To field) needs an email address on their record.
Where to find it

Conversations › contact's conversation › Email channel › CC/BCC field

Step by step

  1. Open Conversations and click the contact's conversation.
  2. In the composer, pick the Email channel (or click Reply on an email you received).
  3. Next to the To field, click CC/BCC to expand both fields.
  4. In CC, type or pick the addresses that should get a visible copy. In BCC, the ones that should get a copy without the others knowing.
    • The list suggests your contacts' emails; you can also type any address.
  5. Click CC/BCC again to collapse the fields. The addresses are kept.
  6. Write the subject and message and click Send.

Tips

  • Use CC to keep someone in the loop openly (for example, the customer's business partner); use BCC when recipients shouldn't see each other.
  • If your Gmail or Outlook mailbox is connected, CC/BCC recipients stay in sync on both sides: changes in Elooo CRM show up in your mailbox and vice versa.
  • To reply to an email that has CC or BCC recipients, Reply all is the only option.

Common problems

  • I don't see the CC/BCC fields → You're on the old composer. Turn on the new one under Settings › Labs and go back to the conversation.
  • I want to drop a CC recipient partway through the thread → CC/BCC recipients can't be removed in the middle of a thread. Start a new email with only the people you want.
  • I CC'd a contact from my account but the thread doesn't show on their record → That's expected: the email lives only in the primary contact's conversation (the To recipient).
  • I typed an outside email in CC and it didn't show up in Contacts → By design: CC/BCC addresses don't create new contacts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use CC/BCC with any email service?

Yes: it works with the Elooo CRM email service, with connected Gmail and Outlook, and with your own SMTP.

What's the difference between CC and BCC?

With CC every recipient can see who got the email. With BCC the hidden recipients don't appear to anyone else.
