How to improve SEO for your store products

Go to Payments › Products, open a product with Include in Online Store turned on and, under Search Engine Listing, fill in the SEO title, SEO description and handle (the product URL). The featured image is the one shown in the search preview.

Before you start

  • You need permission to edit products in Payments.
  • The product must have Include in Online Store turned on; otherwise the SEO fields don't appear.
  • Choose the product's featured image carefully: it's the one search engines and social networks show in the preview.
Where to find it

Payments › Products › (open the product) › Search Engine Listing

Step by step

  1. Open Payments › Products and click the product.
  2. Make sure Include in Online Store is on.
  3. Scroll down to the Search Engine Listing section.
  4. Enter the SEO title: the product name as you want it to appear in search results.
  5. Enter the SEO description: one or two sentences that sum up the product and invite a click.
  6. Set the handle: the last part of the product page URL (for example, blue-running-shoes). It must be unique across the whole store.
  7. Save.

Tips

  • Use the words customers actually type into search (product type, brand, color, size).
  • Collections also have their own SEO title, description and handle in Payments › Products › Collections; fill them in so category pages rank too.
  • For SEO on the rest of the website (page title and description), use the page settings in the builder.

Common problems

  • I don't see the SEO section on the product → Include in Online Store is off. Turn it on and the section appears.
  • I can't save the handle → Another product already uses that handle. Each product needs a different one.
  • The preview shows the wrong image → The product's featured image is used. Change the featured image in the product's images.
  • I changed the handle and old links stopped working → The product URL changed. Update the links you shared or set up a redirect on the site.
