How an unsubscribed contact can start receiving your emails again

After unsubscribing, the contact can pick "Unsubscribed by mistake, subscribe again" in the questionnaire on the unsubscribe page and submit it; their email status is restored automatically. Verify it on the contact record, under the DND panel, and add a tag or note with the date.

Updated on

Before you start

  • Your emails must include the default unsubscribe link (or the unsubscribe method you configured), so the unsubscribe page shows the resubscribe option.
  • If you customized the unsubscribe page, run a test to confirm the resubscribe option is still there.
  • To check the status, you need access to Contacts.
Where to find it

Contacts › (contact record) › left panel › DND › Email channel

Step by step

What the contact does

  1. The contact clicks Unsubscribe in one of your emails and lands on the confirmation page.
  2. That page shows a short questionnaire about the reason. One of the options is Unsubscribed by mistake, subscribe again.
  3. The contact picks that option and clicks Submit.
  4. Elooo CRM restores the contact's email status, and they can receive your sends again.

What your team does

  1. Open Contacts and the contact record.
  2. On the DND panel, confirm the Email channel is no longer blocked. Before, it showed as unsubscribed/blocked; afterwards it shows as eligible.
  3. Check the Activities log on the record: the unsubscribe and the resubscribe both stay in the history as separate events.
  4. Add a tag or note such as "Resubscribed – date" so your team has a consent trail.

Test the flow before relying on it

  1. Create a test contact with one of your own email addresses, with no blocks.
  2. Send it a simple email with the unsubscribe link.
  3. Open the email, click Unsubscribe and complete the unsubscribe flow.
  4. In the questionnaire, pick Unsubscribed by mistake, subscribe again and submit.
  5. Open the test contact's record and confirm email is eligible again.

Tips

  • When someone resubscribes, don't drop them straight into big broadcasts: start with a short confirmation email and a gentle sequence. The consent is fresh.
  • You can use a contact DND change workflow trigger to send the confirmation automatically and apply the tag.
  • Resubscribing restores the email channel only. SMS and other channels are managed separately in the DND settings.

Common problems

  • The contact resubscribed but the campaign still shows them as unsubscribed → Some campaign statistics take time to reflect the change. To decide who to send to, trust the current status on the contact record, not the old campaign report.
  • The resubscribe option doesn't appear on the page → You are using a custom unsubscribe page that removed it. Restore the element or use the default page.
  • The contact unsubscribed again after coming back → The most recent action always wins. The history stays under Activities, but the current status is what counts.
  • I want to restore several contacts at once → Resubscribing is an action the contact takes on the unsubscribe page. For manual exceptions, follow your internal consent rules and change DND on the contact record (see the do-not-disturb article).
