How to check a WhatsApp template's status and fix a rejected or paused template

In Settings › WhatsApp › Templates, the status column shows whether a template is In Review, Active, Rejected, Paused or Disabled. Only active templates can be sent. If it was rejected, read Meta's reason, fix the variables or content and resubmit.

Before you start

  • Your WhatsApp number must be connected to Elooo CRM and you need access to Settings.
  • Every template goes through Meta's review. Elooo CRM catches some variable errors before saving, but final approval is always Meta's.
  • Templates created directly in Meta before connecting your account are imported on the initial connection; after that, always create them in Settings › WhatsApp › Templates so they're available in workflows and conversations.

Step by step

Check a template's status

  1. In the left menu, open Settings and click WhatsApp.
  2. Open the Templates tab and find the template by name.
  3. Read the status in the list:
    • In Review: Meta is still reviewing it.
    • Rejected: not approved; there's a reason from Meta to check.
    • Active – Quality Pending: approved and ready to send, not enough feedback collected yet.
    • Active – High / Medium / Low Quality: approved; quality reflects customer reactions. Low means it's at risk of being paused.
    • Paused: can't be sent because of quality issues.
    • Disabled: unavailable for sending.
    • Appeal Requested: you asked for a review of the decision and are waiting for an answer.

Fix a template that won't save

  1. Open the template and look at the flagged field (header or body).
  2. Use only numbered variables with balanced braces: {{1}}, {{2}}. Forms like {{1$}}, {{1 or {{1}}} are blocked.
  3. The body can't begin or end with a variable: add text before and after (for example, "Hi {{1}}, your order is ready.").
  4. Save again.

Fix a rejected template

  1. In the list, open the rejected template and read the reason Meta gave.
  2. Fix the most common issue:
    • Non-sequential variables (for example, {{1}}, {{2}} and {{4}} with no {{3}}) or too many variables for the amount of text.
    • Content that breaks WhatsApp's business or commerce policies, requests for sensitive data, or abusive language.
    • A template nearly identical to an existing one (same body and footer).
    • Unsupported characters, length or formatting.
  3. Provide realistic sample values for each variable: they help Meta understand the message.
  4. Resubmit or, if you think the rejection was a mistake, use the appeal option.

Tips

  • Send templates only to people who expect to hear from your business: blocks and reports lower quality and can pause the template.
  • Check the status before troubleshooting a failed send: often the template is simply still in review or has been paused.
  • An approved template can later be paused or disabled; keep an eye on the quality of the ones you use most.

Common problems

  • The template passed the checks but Meta rejected it → Elooo CRM's check only catches variable formatting errors. Meta also reviews category, content, duplication and policy. Read the reason and fix it.
  • The template is paused → It received negative feedback or low engagement. It can't be sent until it's Active again; meanwhile, review the text and the audience you send it to.
  • I can't find in Elooo CRM a template that exists in Meta → Only templates that existed at the initial connection are imported. Create the template in Settings › WhatsApp › Templates.
  • The template doesn't show up to pick in a conversation or workflow → Only templates in Active status can be selected. Wait for approval or fix the rejection.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit an already approved template?

You can edit and resubmit it; the new version goes through Meta's review again.

Who rates the template's quality?

Meta, based on customer reactions (blocks, reports, replies). That's why the status can change after approval.
