How to set up shipping zones and rates for your store
Go to Payments › Settings › Shipping & Delivery, click Add Zone, name it, pick the countries (or states/provinces) and click Add Rate to set the price. Rates can be conditional on order total or weight, for example free shipping above a certain amount.

Before you start
- You need permission to manage Payments settings.
- Decide which regions you ship to and the price for each (flat, by order total or by weight).
- If you'll charge by weight, fill in the weight on each product price/variant.
Where to find it
Payments › Settings › Shipping & Delivery › Add Zone
Step by step
Create a shipping zone
- Open Payments, click Settings, then Shipping & Delivery.
- Open the shipping profile (General or a custom one) and go to Shipping Zones.
- Click Add Zone and enter a name (for example, "US East Coast" or "Canada West").
- Select one or more countries and, if you like, only certain states/provinces within a country. A state/province can only belong to one zone.
- (Optional) Turn on Limit Shipping to Specific ZIP/Postcodes and enter the codes separated by commas. A trailing asterisk works as a prefix (for example,
46*matches every code starting with 46). - Save the zone.
Add rates to the zone
- Inside the zone, click Add Rate.
- Name the rate (for example, "Standard shipping") and enter the amount. For free shipping, use 0.
- For a conditional rate, enable Conditional Pricing and choose By Order Price or By Item Weight.
- Set the minimum and, optionally, the maximum of the range (for example, $0–$50 or 0–10 kg) and the rate for that range.
- Click Add. Repeat for the other ranges (for example, "Free" above $50).
Block checkout when no rate applies
- Under Shipping & Delivery, turn on Block Shipping.
- Make sure your zones cover every region you ship to.
- Save and republish the store so the setting takes effect.
Tips
- At checkout, shipping options are sorted cheapest first and the cheapest is selected by default; free shipping appears first.
- You can mix price-based and weight-based rates in the same zone.
- Countries with similar costs can share one zone with the same rates.
- Create a "Rest of world" catch-all zone so no address is left without a rate.
- After changing zones or rates, run a test order with different addresses.
Common problems
- The customer sees no shipping options → Their address doesn't fall into any zone. Create a zone covering that country, or a catch-all zone.
- A customer checked out with unintended free shipping → With no applicable rate and blocking off, checkout proceeds without shipping. Turn on Block Shipping.
- I can't put the same state in two zones → That's the rule: each state/province can only be in one zone.
- The zone won't save with the ZIP restriction → At least one valid code is required; the asterisk is only allowed at the end and duplicates are rejected.
- Block Shipping isn't working on the live site → Republish the page or site to clear the cache.
Frequently asked questions
Can I offer free shipping on some products only?
Not per product. Free shipping applies per zone or per condition (order total or weight).
Does Block Shipping affect digital products?
No. Digital-only carts don't need shipping and check out normally.
