How to move an opportunity between stages on the board

In Opportunities, choose the pipeline and drag the opportunity card into the column of the new stage. You can also open the card, change the Stage field and click Save.

Before you start

  • Your user needs permission to edit opportunities in that pipeline.
  • To drag cards you must be in board view (columns). In list view, you change the stage by opening the opportunity.

Step by step

Drag the card

  1. In the left menu, click Opportunities.
  2. At the top, choose the pipeline from the pipeline list.
  3. Make sure you're in board view (use the view toggle in the top-right corner if you're in list view).
  4. Find the opportunity card. If there are many, use search or filters.
  5. Click the card, hold the mouse button and drag it to the new stage's column.
  6. Drop the card. The change is saved immediately.

Change the stage inside the opportunity

  1. Click the card to open the opportunity.
  2. In the Stage field, choose the new stage. To move it to another process, change the Pipeline first and then the Stage.
  3. Click Save.

Organize the board

  1. To collapse or expand a column, click the control in the stage header (> or <).
  2. To change a column's width, hover over its right edge and drag. Double-click the edge to reset it to the default size.
  3. To sort the cards, click Sort at the top, choose a field (for example, created date or last updated) and ascending or descending order.

Tips

  • Collapsed columns and widths are saved only in your browser and don't change your teammates' view. In another browser or computer, the board goes back to normal.
  • Changing the stage can trigger workflows that use "pipeline stage changed". Check with your admin whether that pipeline has automations.
  • To move many opportunities at once, use bulk actions.

Common problems

  • I can't drag the card → You may be in selection mode (with checkboxes ticked). Untick them all and try again. If it still doesn't work, check that you're in board view and have permission to edit.
  • The card disappeared after I moved it → You may have dropped it on a status (won, lost, abandoned), which appears at the bottom while dragging. Change the status filter to find it and set it back to Open.
  • I can't find the stage column → The column may be collapsed. Click the narrow header to expand it.
  • The board looks different on another computer → That's expected: collapsed columns and widths are saved only in the browser where you set them.

Frequently asked questions

Does moving an opportunity change its status?

No. Stage and status are different things. Moving between stages keeps the status (for example, Open).

Can I undo a stage change?

Yes. Drag the card back to the previous stage or change the Stage field in the opportunity.
