How gamification works: levels, points, leaderboard and rewards
Every like a member gets on a post or comment is worth 1 point, and points move them up through 9 fixed levels. Under the group's Settings › Gamification & Rewards you can rename the levels, write up to 3 rewards and turn on the leaderboard.

Before you start
- You must be the group owner or an admin.
- Think of level names that fit your community (e.g. Beginner, Apprentice, Master) and up to 3 rewards you can deliver yourself.
Where to find it
Memberships › Communities › Groups › (open the group) › Settings › Gamification & Rewards
Step by step
Set up levels, rewards and the leaderboard
- Open Memberships › Communities and enter the group.
- Click Settings and open the Gamification & Rewards tab.
- Rename the levels as you like. The number of levels (9) and the points for each are preset and can't be changed.
- Under Rewards, write up to 3 rewards as text (e.g. "30-minute 1:1 session when you reach level 5"). You deliver these rewards yourself, outside the system.
- Turn on and review the leaderboard settings.
- Click Save.
How members earn points and level up
- Every like received on a post, comment or reply gives the author 1 point.
- Points add up and the member levels up when they hit the threshold: level 1 at 0 points; level 2 at 5; level 3 at 20; level 4 at 65; level 5 at 155; level 6 at 515; level 7 at 2015; level 8 at 8015; level 9 at 33015.
- The level shows on the member's profile badge, with a circular progress bar and the points needed for the next level.
- Members see the leaderboard and the rewards on the group's Leaderboard tab.
Tips
- Levels are per group: a level 3 member in one group starts at level 1 if they join another group.
- Use levels to unlock content: when you link a course to the group you can restrict it to members who reached a certain level, and events can be level-restricted too.
- Encourage genuine likes: ask members to react to the best answers. That's what distributes the points.
- Points never reset over time.
Common problems
- I want to change how many points each level needs → That isn't possible. The point structure and number of levels are fixed; only the names change.
- I want rewards handed out automatically when someone reaches a level → Rewards aren't linked to levels. They're informational text and you deliver them yourself. To automate something, use a workflow with the level condition where available.
- An active member is still level 1 in another group → That's expected: levels count per group.
- Members can't see the leaderboard → Turn it on under Settings › Gamification & Rewards and save.
Frequently asked questions
Are badges awarded automatically?
Yes. When a member reaches a level's points, the badge updates on its own.
Are members told when they level up?
