How to create custom values to reuse text
In Settings › Custom Values, click New Custom Value, give it a name and a value, and save. Then insert the value's code in messages, templates and pages; when you change the value, it updates everywhere.
Updated on
Before you start
- You need access to the account's Settings.
- Think about the text you repeat a lot: opening hours, address, booking link, manager's name, and so on.
Where to find it
Settings › Custom Values › New Custom Value
Step by step
- Open Settings and click Custom Values.
- Click New Custom Value in the top right.
- In Name, enter a clear name, for example Store hours. The system builds the key from the name, for example
{{custom_values.store_hours}}. - In Value, enter the text that should appear, for example Mon–Fri, 9am–7pm.
- Optionally, choose a Folder to keep things organized.
- Click Save.
- To use the value, open the editor of a message, email or page, click Custom Values and pick it from the list.
Organize and edit
- On the Folders tab, click Add New Custom Value Folder to create a folder. Each value can be in only one folder, and folders can't be nested.
- In the All Values list, use a value's three-dot menu to Move to Folder, Edit or Delete.
- For several values at once, tick the checkboxes and use Bulk Actions to move or delete them.
Tips
- Use custom values for anything that might change: you'll only need to update the value once.
- Use the search box at the top of the list to find a value quickly.
Common problems
- I renamed the value and the code is still the old one → That's expected: changing the name doesn't change the key. Keep using the original key or create a new value.
- The code shows up instead of the text when sending → The code is mistyped. Insert it again from the Custom Values button instead of typing it by hand.
- I deleted a value that was in use → Messages that used it no longer show the text. Create it again with the same name and check that the key matches.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a custom value and a custom field?
A custom value is the same for the whole account (for example, opening hours). A custom field stores different data for each contact.
