How to customize your course's look (theme, logo, colors)

In the course, open Customize, click Browse System Templates and pick the Neo Classic theme. Adjust the logo, search bar, hero section, welcome blocks, syllabus and sidebar with a live preview, activate the template and, if you like, save it under My Templates to reuse on other courses.

Updated on

Before you start

  • The course must already exist in Memberships › Courses › Products.
  • Have your logo, cover image (hero section), instructor photo and brand colors handy.
Where to find it

Memberships › Courses › Products › (open the course) › Customize

Step by step

Choose the theme

  1. Open Memberships › Courses › Products and click the course.
  2. Click Customize.
  3. Click Browse System Templates and choose Neo Classic: it's the theme with the full customization editor.
  4. Make the changes you want (below) and click Activate Template. The preview shows every change in real time.

Customize the course page sections

  1. Logo: show or hide, choose text or image, set the height (small or medium) and what happens on click (go to the site home or the course home).
  2. Search bar: show or hide, write the helper text and change the background and text colors.
  3. Hero section (the top of the page): choose a background image or solid color, add an overlay with color and opacity, edit the title and description (color, bold, italic, alignment), the height (full, medium, small) and the Start button text and color.
  4. Welcome body: click Add Section to stack image blocks (with a link), text, video or custom blocks with a call-to-action button.
  5. Course syllabus: show or hide, display by categories or as a list of lessons, and edit the "Categories", "Coming Soon" and "Show More" labels.
  6. Sidebar: turn on the progress bar (with its own color and text), the instructor section (headshot, name, title, bio), a cross-sell block promoting another offer with a button, and custom blocks with text, image and button.
  7. Lesson page: show the breadcrumb trail back to the course, change the player background color, turn on auto advance and align the lesson body text.

Save the look as a template

  1. In the theme editor, click Save as Template.
  2. Enter a name and click Save.
  3. The template appears under My Templates on the main Customize screen, ready to apply to other courses.

Tips

  • Save a branded template before building your second course: it saves time and keeps every course looking the same.
  • Use the sidebar cross-sell block to promote the next offer to students who are already inside.
  • When you apply Neo Classic from the system templates, it shows as "Neo Classic Theme" to tell it apart from your saved templates.

Common problems

  • I don't see the customization options described here → The course is on an older theme. Under Customize › Browse System Templates, apply Neo Classic.
  • The logo looks small or cropped → Under Logo, set the height to medium and upload an image with a transparent background and good resolution.
  • My changes didn't stick on the course → You made the changes but didn't click Activate Template. Go back to the editor and activate it.
  • The course title is unreadable over the image → In the hero section, add a darker overlay with more opacity or change the title color.
