How to charge for access to a group (one-time payment or subscription)
Inside the group, go to Settings › Subscriptions, click Add new price, choose One-time or Recurring (with trial days and a monthly or annual billing period), click Add and save. The price shows in the group description and anyone who wants in pays before requesting access.

Before you start
- You must be the group owner or an admin.
- You need a payment provider connected under Payments › Integrations (for example, Stripe).
- If you charge sales tax or VAT, set up taxes under Payments first: the group checkout uses the same tax rules as your account.
- Decide the model: one-time payment (unlimited access) or recurring subscription (monthly or annual, with or without a trial).
Where to find it
Memberships › Communities › Groups › (open the group) › Settings › Subscriptions
Step by step
Create a one-time price
- Open Memberships › Communities and enter the group.
- Click Settings and open Subscriptions.
- Click Add new price.
- Enter the amount and choose the One-time type.
- Click Add, then Save.
Create a recurring subscription
- Under Settings › Subscriptions, click Add new price.
- Enter the amount and choose the Recurring type.
- Optionally set the free trial days.
- Choose the billing period: monthly or annually.
- Click Add, then Save.
Test the payment
- Under Subscriptions, turn on Test Mode.
- Open the group link in an incognito window and go through checkout with your payment provider's test details.
- Turn test mode off before promoting the group.
Grant access after payment
- If the group is public, the member pays, signs up and gets in right away.
- If the group is private, they request to join after paying. Go to Members › Requested and click Approve.
- You and the other admins get an email with each payment's details; the member gets a payment confirmation and, once approved, the access notice.
Tips
- After saving, the group description shows the price to anyone opening the link. Write a description that sells what people get by joining.
- When a member cancels their subscription (from the client portal or from the payment provider), they're removed from the group automatically, and both they and the admins get a cancellation email.
- To refund a payment, go to Payments › Transactions, click the transaction's three dots and choose Refund. You can also refund from the payment provider's dashboard.
- If you accidentally delete a paying member's contact and then restore it, they're reinstated in the group without paying again.
- Minimum and maximum amounts per currency depend on the payment provider; check its documentation.
Common problems
- The customer paid but isn't in the group → The group is private and the request hasn't been approved yet. Go to Members › Requested and approve it.
- I don't see the Add new price option → No payment provider is connected. Connect one under Payments › Integrations.
- Checkout doesn't show taxes → Set up automatic taxes or manual tax rates under Payments; the group checkout uses those rules.
- The member canceled but says they want to stay → Cancellation removes them from the group automatically. They'll need to subscribe again through the group link.
- I made a test payment and it was recorded as real → Test Mode wasn't on. Refund the transaction under Payments › Transactions.
Frequently asked questions
Can a group be both paid and private?
Yes. Privacy (public or private) and pricing are independent settings. In a paid private group, the member pays and then waits for your approval.
Can I sell courses inside the group instead of charging for the group?
Yes. On the Learning tab you can add a course with a buy option while keeping the group free.
